Can a debt collection agency still pursue me for money after 8 years?

In the UK no, if legal action has not been started in the 6 years from the moment the debt became due. Legal action does not mean contacting you, but applying to the courts for any reason.
I know that US law has many similarities to the UK so i think you should get some advice maybe from citizens advice or a free legal advice centre if you have one. They sell it to a third party agency that will try to get it from you.
They will just pester you. Actually, your debt was written off for non payment from the original source.
I would just ignore them and they will give up.It is a collection agency that is calling you. Most likely they can’t collect. Tell them to stop. For more information, go to clarkhoward.com. He is an Atlanta based financial adviser that uses plain language and practical applications for all things money. I have heard on his radio program how these companies use all sorts of angles to try to get you to pay. Ignore their rudeness and threats. Do not give them any information. Try asking for their company name and a phone number and you will probably find out that they will refuse to give it to you. On the website, it has on the left side: Ask Team Clark. Call and tell them your problem. They will help you.The best thing to do is not reply. They don’t know who you are. If you respond, they now know you are the person they are looking for. They probably can’t legally sue you after 7 years, but they will harass you if you confirm you are the person they are looking for. Also check your credit at annualcreditreport, com to make sure they don’t list you as delinquent.
