Help! 80,000 student loan debt with a Masters in Social Work or School Counseling?

Posted on 04 June 2009 by Debt Helper

This would be a crazy amount of debt to shoulder for either of these degrees. I assume you are combining a very high undergraduate debt with the debt from a master's program, because very few schools in the country would charge that much for a master's degree. Most undergrads owe around $20,000 after 4 years, so even with another 2 years tacked on it shouldn't cost you that much. Keep in mind that you can also work part-time, and during summer, before and during school.I'd choose the career you find most interesting/satisfying than picking one based on the debt load which is high either way. Might want to look into a grad GA/TA position to offset your tuition bill. There are usually a lot of opportunities in a college of education for GA positions, for example.
