I’m trying to eliminate debt, but was it dumb to get more into it on black friday to get a great deal?

You are already in debt, so why add more to it. Pay off the debt you already have and then buy somehtng else, but please not on credit. Just because you got it on sale doesn’t mean you didn’t spend money. You need to take it back. Especially if you want to get married soon. Marriage takes money..and lots of it. Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean you have to buy it. Was it really necessary to buy the tv? You’ve got along all this time without it so what’s the rush? Maybe you’re trying to impress everyone else when you’re the one stuck with the expense. It’s your decision to return it or keep it. I can only offer you an opinion. Good Luck!save the money untail next year there will be better tecnoligy and it will be cheaper….to get rid of debt you need to pay a decent amount each month like if the debt is 5,000 you pay 200 per month you will be debt free in about 2 and a half yearsI understand the urge to take advantage of a good deal. But I kind of think you should take this one back. If you guys are getting married in a few months that might be one of things you two decide to purchase together with wedding gift money or something. Right now that money is necessary for paying off debt or for purchasing wedding items. What you did was to buy on emotion. Yes, it was a great deal – and it set you back $800. Keep making emotional decisions like that and you will end up in debt. Um, wait a minute, you already are in debt.

The good news is that you are feeling what is known as "buyers remorse". Listen to it.

Do you do this often? Buy because you want it and because it's "on sale". Save save save Big $$$$$$$? Do you commonly fall for all the marketing hype?

Because I guarantee you, they made money on that TV sale. And you are most certainly $800 poorer for it.

If you are trying to reduce debt, then you should be buying neccessities only. And no TV is a neccessity. Food, clothing, shelter, heat, electricity; those are neccessities. Not TV or cable, or movies, or jewelry, or video games, or stereo equipment, etc..

Plus you are heading for one of life's biggest expenses: a wedding. And potentially one of life's biggest financial disasters of them all: marriage. As a very respected financial planner put it to me, "never take responsibility for anything that eats". And he meant children, pets, spouses, everything that eats.

You're going to need every dime you can squeeze.

But don't feel bad. I've literally had people tell me that they would die if they did not get some fashion accessory for their daughter. You should take it back. We have to get back in the habit of not buying everything we want. We have turned into a society that thinks we should have everything we want. Needs come first, then if there is anything left over, wants. If you can’t afford to pay for it with cash, then you can’t afford it. Good luck to you and your upcoming wedding!Take it back.
You bought it (like a woman) because it was discounted!!!!! You thought – 400 saved not 800 spent!!!!!
I suggest you don’t tell her you bought it!
You have a TV already, you are only buying a better/newer one, OK so the picture quality is better but will you think it worth it when she has walked out (if you keep it….)!
Finding “a great deal” is part of the reason you are in debt? How much of your debt is because you bought something you “really wanted for a long time”?

You have a standard, plain ol tv that works.

You did not need the HDTV you wanted it.

If you are trying to get out of debt, then yes, purchasing the HDTV no matter how great a deal was a bad idea.

If you are trying to get out of debt – I suggest you check out Dave Ramsey’s book The Total Money Makeover. It will help to give you some perspective on debt and a strategy for getting out. He also has a radio program that comes on during the week.
